Market Sectors / CommercialToday, a growing number of architects and owners are discovering the aesthetic and performance advantages of Birdair commercial projects. Not only do Birdair tensile structure systems offer exciting designs for civic destinations and community landmarks, they are time-tested, cost-effective solutions to today's construction needs. Facilities such as the Center of Marine Biotechnology in Baltimore, the Hawai’i Convention Center, and the San Diego Convention Center show how striking a commercial tensile system can be, with fabric structures shaped to reflect the nature of the business as well as the culture and history of the region. But Birdair offers clients more than just fabric membrane. The David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh effectively highlights Birdair’s capabilities beyond its well-known fabric membrane structures. Working in partnership with architects who required a metal canopy roofing system, this project was completed in 2003 using Birdair’s sloping, steel structure design. This latticework became a key aesthetic component to the cantilevered riverfront center’s cutting-edge engineering. Combined with daylight harvesting, minimal materials and energy savings, the building earned an LEED “green” certification, the first of its kind among convention centers in North America, and one of the first in the world. By working with Birdair’s team of progressive designers, what once was an architect’s rendering or the dream of a building owner can now become a reality. From office building entrance ways to community quadrangles and more, Birdair can make your commercial building application stand out from the rest.
