"MakMax Australia announces the launch of industry leading website at www.makmax.com.au. Taking months of development the new MakMax website offers the most comprehensive collection of information on Tensile Membrane products and services available. Focused on the architectural and engineering industry, technical content is easily accessible as a free source or sign up download. The new Members Area and Downloads sections offer a variety of technical information and material specification documents which will assist specifying tensile membrane products. August 17, 2010 Birdair, Inc. Selected to Retrofit Canada Place's Iconic Sail Roof – Canadian Landmark to Receive Updated TiO2-coated PTFE Tensile Roofing
"Birdair, Inc., the leading specialty contractor of lightweight long-span roofing systems and tensile structures throughout the world, has been selected to provide the updated tensile roofing system for Canada Place in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. As the manufacturer of Canada Place's original sail fabric, Birdair is proud to be a part of this project. Birdair will serve as roofing sub-contractor for the Vancouver landmark, replacing the structure's current roof with 91,210 square feet of TiO2-coated PTFE fiberglass fabric membrane that matches the original five-sail design installed in 1985." July 27, 2010 Birdair, Inc. Completes Haddad Riverfront Park Project – Fabric Membrane Canopies Provide Shelter For West Virginia Park's Stage, Seating and Pavilion
"Visitors to Haddad Riverfront Park in Charleston, WV, are now greeted by three fiberglass fabric membrane roof and facade cladding systems from Birdair, Inc., the leading specialty contractor of lightweight long-span roofing systems and tensile structures throughout the world. The systems include a retractable fabric canopy over the park's existing seating area, a steel and fabric roof for the park's new permanent stage and a canopy covering a new pavilion overlooking the Kanawha River. July 1, 2010 Birdair, Inc. Project Receives 2010 AIA 25-Year Award – Hajj Terminal at King Abdul Aziz International Airport in Saudi Arabia Honored by AIA For Standing Test of Time
"The Hajj Terminal at King Abdul Aziz International Airport in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, featuring a tensioned membrane roofing system from Birdair, Inc., the leading specialty contractor of lightweight long-span roofing systems and tensile structures throughout the world, has received the AIA 25-Year Award from the American Institute of Architects (AIA). Completed in 1981, the Hajj Terminal was designed by the New York and Chicago offices of Skidmore, Owens & Merrill LLP (SOM). The Hajj Terminal is one of the world's largest airport terminals, covering 120 acres and 2.8 million square-feet. Each year, pilgrims traveling to Mecca pass through the terminal and nearly 40 million pilgrims have utilized the terminal since its inception. The terminal can accommodate 50,000 pilgrims daily and is equipped with 120 shopping stores, restaurants, water cabins, a medical center and other support facilities." Read full press release >>
July 1, 2010 MakMax Gold Coast Stadium Redevelopment
"MakMax has been awarded the fabric roofing contract for the $144.2 million Gold Coast Stadium Redevelopment at Carrara, Queensland. The Queensland Government led Gold Coast Stadium project is managed by WATPAC and supported by the Commonwealth Government, the Gold Coast City Council and the AFL. The stadium will boast a PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) glass fibre membrane roof that will span a total of 16,600 square metres providing cover for the East, West and Southern perimeter of the structure. Completion of the 25,000 seat capacity stadium is expected in mid 2011. The facility is being built to accommodate an AFL oval, ICC-compliant cricket oval, provision to allow future installation of IAAF Athletics field and FIFA World Cup soccer field including all the associated corporate, media and player facilities." February 5, 2010 Canopy System from Birdair, Inc. Shades New Addition to Aquarium of the Pacific – Southern California Aquarium Benefits from Tensioned Membrane Roofing; Achieves LEED® Platinum Certification
"The Aquarium of the Pacific – Southern California's largest aquarium and the fourth largest in the nation – now benefits from a tensioned membrane canopy system designed, engineered and installed by Birdair, Inc., the leading specialty contractor of lightweight long-span roofing systems and tensile structures throughout the world. As part of a 2008 expansion effort, the aquarium added a new classroom and outdoor exhibition area. Birdair served as roofing sub-contractor for the project, providing a cost-effective and energy saving canopy system that shades the outdoor exhibition space. Approximately 2,018 square feet of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) fabric membrane forms the canopy, installed as a linked Quasar Modular Unit System. "The newly constructed Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, featuring a tensioned membrane roofing system from Birdair, Inc., the leading specialty contractor of lightweight long-span roofing systems and tensile structures throughout the world, has received an award from the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction (CISC) in the International category of Steel Construction Design. The Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, located in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, is one of four primary stadiums slated to host the 2010 Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) World Cup beginning in June 2010. As roofing sub-contractor for the 50,000-seat venue, Birdair's project role included designing, engineering and constructing the structure's tensile roofing system, as well as erecting 2,400 metric tonnes of roof girders."
