Project Gallery / Veltins Arena

Considered to be one of the most modern stadiums in the world, the Veltins Arena opened as a new home for the football team FC Schalke 04. Originally called Arena AufSchalke, it hosted the 2004 UEFA Champions League Final and five matches in the 2006 FIFA World Cup.

With a capacity of 61, 482, the Veltins Arena is accredited as a UEFA Five-Star Stadium and is designed to be multifunctional. The Veltins Arena features a Teflon-coated fiberglass retractable roof, which spans the entire stadium. The roof is supported by a rectangular truss that is suspended above the field, which is in turn connected to the main building via 24 steel pylons. The center of the roof can be opened into two halves, and a second layer of Teflon-coated fiberglass was added over the first, creating a dampening air cushion designed to reduce exterior noise during concerts.
