Osaka hosts Expo for first time since 1970, when Birdair and Taiyo Kogyo’s relationship began

Running through October, the Expo serves as a global platform for innovation and architectural ingenuity, where industry leaders converge to showcase groundbreaking solutions.
Returning to Osaka holds special significance for Birdair and Taiyo, as their history with the World Expo dates back to the last time Osaka hosted the event in 1970. During that landmark event, Birdair won the contract for the U.S. Pavilion and worked with Taiyo to install it, forging a partnership that has endured for the last 55 years. Today, their contributions to World Expo 2025 reaffirm their shared commitment to excellence in sustainable and dynamic construction.

As part of Taiyo’s Global Summit in June, members of the Birdair team and its sister companies visited the Expo in Osaka to witness firsthand the groundbreaking projects that Taiyo is showcasing throughout the event, including the Grand Ring, Blue Ocean Dome, and Osaka Healthcare Pavilion. From the elegantly designed ETFE film and PVC at the Expo Sauna TAIYO TSUBOMI to the translucent, silver-toned PVC membranes of the Electric Power Pavilion, each of the 20 Taiyo structures epitomizes technical sophistication and environmental consideration while representing a leap forward in materials innovation and structural design.
The World Expo is an event that brings together people and innovations from around the globe in an effort to address issues facing humankind. The Osaka Expo in 1970, Asia’s first ever Expo, became a symbol of Japan’s rapid economic growth and one of the country’s most lauded events. The 2025 Expo’s theme is “Designing Future Society for Our Lives,” and its primary goal is to bring together the wisdom of the world, including breakthroughs and technologies, to create and communicate new ideas.
