Setting the Stage for the Future—A New Birdair Updated Roof That Keeps Every Show in Perfect Harmony
Birdair is preparing to revitalize the Tennessee Amphitheater with a new PTFE tensile fabric roof that will blend modern performance with the site’s historic character. The Tennessee Amphitheater was originally constructed by Birdair for the 1982 World’s Fair and during that time, it was home to both country music and classical music concerts. The Sunsphere and the Tennessee Amphitheater are the only structures that remain from the 1982 World’s Fair. Through this upcoming project, Birdair will upgrade with a new PTFE-coated fiberglass membrane roof system for the lightweight, high-performing canopy designed to enhance acoustics, improve audience comfort, and extend the usability of the venue. The planned transformation will preserve the amphitheater’s legacy while setting the stage for a new era of performances under an innovative architectural centerpiece and is expected to be ready for 2027.
