Defined by their dramatic inverted cone forms, these design-build Birdair canopy structures create a striking visual rhythm across the courtyard—capturing light, channeling shade, and transforming the outdoor office environment into a space designed for gathering, collaboration, and connection.
Completed in 2001, the architectural vision was led by DAVIS Architecture, formerly known as DFD CornoyerHedrick, with engineering expertise provided by Caruso Turley Scott Engineers and The Ryan Companies served as general contractor.
Together, the inverted cone canopies equal an approximate 7,800 square feet of PTFE membrane surface area, demonstrating both the beauty and performance of tensile fabric architecture in the Arizona desert climate. The translucent PTFE material diffuses the intense sunlight overhead while preserving an open-air atmosphere below, creating comfortable shaded spaces that feel both expansive and connected to the surrounding environment.
