Kennedy Town Swimming Pool

Town Swimming Pool in China First to Utilize Translucent Insulated Tensile Membrane for Pool Roof

The first translucent insulated membrane roofing system (Tensotherm) was recently completed for the renovated Kennedy Town Swimming Pool located in Hong Kong, China. The facility was designed by the Terry Farrell and Partners architecture firm, the group responsibie for a number of photogenic projects in the city and around the world, insluding the semi-circular Peak Tower in Hong Kong and Gatwick Airport in the UK.

The complex is triangular shaped with a curved roof opening towards the harbor. In addition to the new indoor pool, it houses a standard outdoor pool and a kiddie pool with a small playground. Directly contracted through Shanghai Taiyo Kogyo Corporation (STC), a Birdair sister company, Birdair's scope included design, engineering, fabrication and supply of the 11,000 sq.ft. roofing system with installation and project management of the project executed by STC. Showcasing wonderful light translucency for swimming, the new insulated roof system features an 8mm aerogel blanket, providing an R-value of 4.90 (U-vaule of 1.16).
