The Shoppes at Buckland Hills

Located in Manchester, Connecticut, just minutes from the heart of downtown Hartford, The Shoppes at Buckland Hills is a 1.1 million-square-foot retail and entertainment complex, catering to the needs and tastes of the region’s bustling residential populace.

Location: Manchester, CT USA
Fabric Type: PTFE Fiberglass
Market Sector: Retail
Project Size: 20,795 sq.ft.
Architect: Carroll Architect Ltd.
Owner: General Growth Properties, Inc.
General Contractor: Vratsinas Construction Company
Completion Date: June 5, 2003

Originally constructed in 1990, the Shoppes underwent a major multi-million dollar renovation in 2003, adding more than 50,000 square feet of additional retail space. Birdair was there from the outset, enlisted to play a major role in the mall’s exterior and interior envelope design.

Using 20,795 square feet of PTFE tensile fabric membrane, Birdair’s architectural canopy encloses the two-story Shoppes in high translucent comfort, allowing an abundance of natural daylight to filter through the mall’s main thoroughfares and adjacent food court. From the outside, this durable fabric roof system is punctuated by a series of bright white “spires” that echo New England’s familiar white church steeples

Combined with the interior’s “Main Street” style metal work and interior light fixtures, Birdair’s contribution to the Shoppes at Buckland Hills results in a pleasant and inviting shopping experience for area patrons.
