Where Music Soars Beneath a Birdair Canopy of Innovation at Aspen Music Festival and School
The Michael Klein Music Tent, which opened in 2000, is the Festival’s primary concert venue and seats 2050. Originally designed and built by Birdair, world's leading tensile membrane specialty contractor, the music pavilion recently underwent a stunning tensioned membrane roof replacement, preserving its iconic silhouette while updating its innovative structure. The design's open sides invite the surrounding mountain air to mingle with the music, creating a truly immersive experience. This architectural lineage runs deep: the Klein Tent stands on the legacy of two visionary predecessors—the 1965 tent designed by Bauhaus artist Herbert Bayer, and the original tent by legendary architect Eero Saarinen. Whether seated inside or picnicking on the lush lawn just outside, audiences enjoy world-class performances in a setting as breathtaking as the music itself.
