Lifetime Sports Complex on the campus of Tallahassee State College, Home of the Eagles, Sports an Upgraded Tensile Roof by Birdair
Birdair originally designed and built the single layer PTFE tensile membrane roof here on campus back in 1983 and received an upgrade in 2018 with a new insulated translucent Tensotherm roof that enhances thermal and acoustic performance while preserving the original design intent. The original 17,000 sq.ft. translucent PTFE roof was designed and engineered by Barrett, Daffin and Carlan Architects and FTL Associates, now known as Lightweight Structures Group at TYLin. The structure sports wood glulam crossed arches with intermediate bracing, spanning two separate roof areas within the complex — a design that remains a defining architectural element today.
Recognized as one of Florida’s premier junior colleges, Tallahassee State College is home to this impressive facility on the west side of campus. The Lifetime Sports Complex houses three full-length basketball courts along with flexible, multipurpose spaces, providing a dynamic environment for recreation, athletics, and spectators alike.
